Captain Harlock is the protagonist of the Space Pirate Captain Harlock manga series, and was created by manga artist Leiji Matsumoto.
In 2977, mankind has space colonies, machines do all the work and everyone just wants to have fun. When deadly plant-based aliens that look like women attack the Earth in order to colonize it, only one rogue captain can stop them.
Harlock is the archetypical Romantic hero, a space pirate with an individualist philosophy of life. He is as noble as he is taciturn, rebellious, stoic.
He is the leader of the resistance seeking to save Earth from its alien conquerors!
The character was created in 1977 and popularized in the 1978 television series Space Pirate Captain Harlock. Since then, the character has appeared in numerous animated television series and films.
The skull and crossbones adorns Harlock's uniform and is rather frighteningly emblazoned on the prow of his spaceship.
