POSTWAR LIONEL 2020 PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD S2 STEAM TURBINE &  2020W TENDER
LOT DESCRIPTION:
As the title says this lot consists of a Postwar Lionel 2020, 6-8-6, Die Cast PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD S2 STEAM TURBINE & 2020W TENDER that was made in only 1946.  This is the very first version of a long line of turbines that Lionel would make.  It varies from the next line of turbines in that there is no e-unit slot in the top of the boiler, the e-unit is a special horizontal unit and it is turned off and on buy reversing the plug that is in the back of the cab.  Normally  does not have the traditional smoke  unit, smoke is generated by a special bulb in the front of the boiler that has a dimple in it that holds the smoke pill and the heat from the bulb melts the pill and makes the smoke but because of the poor smoking of this bulb Lionel offered a smoke conversion unit (the later heating element) that you could install on these early turnings and that is what has been done here.     The tender has the staple end trucks and the early coil coupler, and it also has a whistle. Both pieces are all original Post War Lionel.
DESCRIPTION OF CONDITION:
The locomotive and tender are both in fine  shape. The loco casting is perfect, no breaks, cracks or chips. Front decal looks great. No rust or missing parts, great color, numbers nice and clear.  Minor rubs on the loco shell as you can see in the pictures a worn area on the front cow catcher..   The tender too looks fine, no cracks, breaks or chips on the shell, lettering crisp and clear, and couplers and trucks all fine. Again, a nice looking set that IMHO I would rate as in C-7, excellent condition but look at the pictures and you be the judge for the pictures are an important part of the description and say more than my words ever can.
WORKING CONDITION:
I have cleaned, lubed and tested the locomotive and it runs and reverses just fine, e-unit cycles perfectly, the smoke unit  works and the whistle on the tender also works fine.
